Even though you’re pressured heavily and influenced by many aspects of your life as a teen, there are things you can do to help keep your smile safe. During your teen years, your teeth can be susceptible to several different forms of damage, but you can protect yourself if you’re willing to take the time to understand your risks, treatments and prevention plans to help keep your smile safe.

Protecting your smile during the teen years includes making sure you are aware of the risks associated with it. Any time you are involved with contact sports or other high-risk activities, you will need to make sure you are wearing the appropriate safety equipment and gear to minimize any strikes or damage that can occur. Even the use of helmets or face masks can minimize the effects of a strike to your face that would otherwise break your jaw and knock out several teeth. Keep your mouth and jaw safe by wearing safety gear at all times.

Avoid unhealthy habits that are often influenced by peer pressure risks. Your friends and peers may try to talk you into using products such as tobacco or drugs, but not only are they extremely addictive and potentially harmful to your health, they can even lead to problems associated with your oral health. Tobacco and drugs can stain teeth, cause bad breath, lead to infections, tooth loss and even give rise to oral and throat cancer.
